Physical Scrapyard

The digital scrapyard idea wouldn't resonate with me so well if my physical life didn't have so many similarities to a real scrapyard.

There are several reasons, psychological and habitual, that I have difficulty getting rid of things, but they're not important right now. The fact is I have too much stuff and much of it is useless.

I'm going to try documenting things here and disposing of them to see if that can ease my conscience or give closure, or purge the demons; whatever it takes to off load stuff without hesitation, pangs of guilt, or getting lost in reminiscent or speculative daydreams.

Cups from Firehouse Coffee

When I was working in an office in Fort Monroe I went regularly to Firehouse Coffee. At the time they were using high-end disposable cups. As high-end as a disposable cup can reasonably be, anyway. They were manufactured with a double-layer body, the outer layer being corrugated for additional insulative value.

This naturally made them more expensive as well as impossible to print on or otherwise decorate to match the company's visual style. During the time I was a regular customer they phased these cups out and went to single walled cups with decorated sleeves.

A solid business decision but this jarred me aesthetically. The corrugated cups, for all their faults, feel substantial in the hand. They feel like something that can be used in a long-term temporary way. So these rode around in my car for a while, eventually settling in the garage. Where they've been for several years now.

Today, with your help, they go on with their journey and away from my garage.
